Editorial Standards at TechMinds

This page explains how TechMinds produces every product review on this site. We publish it because we believe readers have a right to know exactly how a recommendation was made before trusting it.

1. Acquisition

Every product we review is acquired one of three ways:

• Retail purchase at full price by the reviewer. This is our default. We prefer products we have paid for because the financial commitment focuses the testing.
• Review unit borrowed from a manufacturer or PR agency. The unit is returned at the end of the testing period. When a review unit is used, we state this in the article footer with the line “Review unit provided by [manufacturer].”
• Long-term loan for products that take more than 30 days to evaluate fairly (for example, a mattress or a smartwatch used across sleep cycles). The article footer discloses the loan source.

We do not accept products with conditions attached. A manufacturer cannot require advance reading of the review, cannot require specific talking points, and cannot require approval before publication. When a manufacturer imposes any such condition, we return the product and do not cover it.

2. Testing period

We test every product for a minimum of 30 days before publishing a review. The 30-day floor exists because:

• A first-day experience with a gadget is dominated by setup friction. Useful insights start after setup is forgotten.
• Real durability issues appear in week 2 to 4, not in week 1.
• Battery life, thermal behavior, and software update patterns stabilize by week 3.

Some categories require longer testing. We state the actual testing duration at the top of each review.

3. Scoring system

We do not use a single 1-to-10 score because it compresses too much information into a number that does not match how people actually buy. Instead, every review scores the product on four axes:

• Performance — How well it does the core job. Measured, not estimated.
• Build and design — Physical quality, ergonomics, durability.
• Value — Price relative to what you get. Includes comparison to the top two alternatives.
• Long-term viability — Will this still be good in 2 years? Software support, hardware durability, brand reliability.

Each axis gets a short paragraph with a verdict: Recommended, Acceptable, or Avoid. The reader does not need to add up numbers to decide.

4. Affiliate and commercial disclosure

TechMinds participates in the Amazon Associates program, the AliExpress affiliate program, and a small number of SaaS affiliate programs (Hostinger, Cursor, and others listed on the Recommends page).

Affiliate commissions fund the site. They do not influence what we cover or how we score it. When two products tie on merit, we sometimes pick the one with the lower commission or no commission at all. We have returned affiliate commissions from products we had to downgrade after extended testing.

Every article that contains an affiliate link declares it in the footer of that article. Affiliate links are also tagged with rel="sponsored" and rel="nofollow" to comply with search engine guidelines on paid promotion.

We do not run sponsored content that mimics editorial tone. If we ever accept sponsored coverage, the piece is labeled “Sponsored” at the top and is clearly distinguishable from editorial reviews.

5. Corrections policy

When we get something wrong, we say so. The correction process:

1. A reader or source reports an error via the editorial inbox on the Contact page.
2. The original reviewer verifies the claim by re-testing or consulting an authoritative source.
3. If the claim is wrong, the article is corrected in place and a “Last updated” timestamp is added to the footer.
4. If the correction is material (changes the verdict or a key claim), a brief note explaining the correction is added at the top of the article for 30 days.

We correct confirmed errors within 7 days of confirmation.

6. AI and automation disclosure

We use AI tools in our editorial workflow for:

• Grammar checking and typo detection.
• Transcribing long audio interviews.
• Generating chart visualizations from spreadsheet data.

We do not use AI to draft, rewrite, or summarize product reviews. Every review is written by the human reviewer who tested the product. We do not publish auto-generated content. If we ever change this policy, this page will be updated before the change takes effect.

7. Independence commitments

TechMinds is editorially independent. No outside party has review, approval, or veto rights over what we publish. The only exceptions are legal review for defamation risk (extremely rare) and the factual-error correction process described in section 5.
